More Than a Coach
Eligibility
- Age: 18-24
- Matric pass.
- A passion for education and sport.
- A desire to play a positive role in the community.
- Open to learning and working in private and public schools, in townships, suburbs, rural and informal communities.
Documents Needed
Please ensure you have the following documents in PDF form before applying:- South African Citizens or Permanent Residents: Identity Document (ID)
- Non-South African Applicants: Passport and valid Visa for study.
- Reference Letter from a teacher, lecturer, faith or community leader who knows you well
- Proof of Household Income (Payslip or SASSA Affidavit)
- Matric Certificate (or most recent results if in matric)
- If you are currently studying at a university or other tertiary institution:
- Proof of Registration
- Recent Academic Transcript
- Recent Financial Statement
- If you will be starting studying at a tertiary institution in 2026:
- Proof of Provisional or Final Acceptance (if available)
- If you have completed any other tertiary qualification:
- Academic Transcript or Certificate
Preparation
Before you begin your application, please prepare answers of no more than 200 words for the following four questions:- Explain why you want to become a coach. What impact do you hope to have on your athletes and community, and what experiences have inspired your decision?
- Describe how you approach studying and managing your learning over time. Give an example of a time you committed yourself to learning something challenging, whether in sport, academics, or your own life. How did you do this, and what did it teach you about your ability to succeed in future learning?
- Describe a time you learned something valuable from someone else (a mentor, coach, teammate, or competitor). How did this shape your understanding of coaching, and how will it guide your growth as a coach and leader?
- Tell us about a time you actively served a team or community through coaching, volunteering, leadership, or mentorship. What impact did your service have, and how does it reflect your vision of being more than a coach?
